SUNNYVALE, CA—January 22, 2009—Maxim Integrated Products (NASDAQ: MXIM) introduces the MAX13234E–MAX13237E family of RS-232 transceivers. Providing upgraded functionality to Maxim's legacy MAX3224E–MAX3227E RS-232 transceivers, these devices provide the industry's highest data rates (up to 3Mbps), low-voltage logic-level translation, low 1µA supply current through the AutoShutdown Plus™ feature, and enhanced ESD protection. All transmitter outputs and receiver inputs are protected to ±15kV Air-Gap Discharge and ±8kV Contact Discharge per IEC 1000-4-2, as well as ±15kV using the Human Body Model. The MAX13234E–MAX13237E thus enable high-speed data transmission while eliminating the need for external logic-level translation. This family of RS-232 transceivers is ideal for telematics, GPS devices, POS (point-of-sale) equipment, portable electronics, and industrial applications.

The MAX13234E/MAX13235E feature two receivers and two transmitters and are available in a space-saving TQFN/TSSOP package. The MAX13236E/MAX13237E have a single receiver and transmitter and are packaged in a compact TQFN. The MAX13235E/MAX13237E guarantee data rates up to 3Mbps, while the MAX13234E/MAX13236E support 250kbps operation. All devices operate from a 3V to 5.5V supply voltage and are fully specified over the -40°C to +85°C extended temperature range.
