互联网留学360介绍，南卫理公会大学成立于1911年4月17日，最初由德克萨斯州的联合理工会5次会议最终决定。原本打算于1913年正式招生却推迟2年。南卫理公会与西南大学原是长时期的竞争对手，本来它想将西南大学搬迁至沃斯堡或达拉斯，结果自己却意想不到的搬迁至达拉斯，历史上被成为“失败的努力”。西南大学校长Hyer成为SMU第一任校长；理工学院（如今的卫斯理安大学）在独立为女子学院以前一直是SMU的下属学校，而SMU一直管理着西南大学的医学院直到1915年，后西南大学成为规模较小的文理学院。为了感谢市政及当地居民筹款30万美金确保大学地理位置，SMU将第一栋建筑命名为达拉斯厅，并成为了SMU的代表性建筑。

基本要求
南卫理公会大学研究生院规定的基本申请条件如下：
正规大学本科毕业并取得学士学位
GPA要求：南卫理公会大学未划定有最低的GPA分数要求，但多数专业均要求不低于3.0分
语言要求：多数专业均要求TOEFL不低于80分；IELTS要求不低于6.5分
GRE要求：绝大多数专业均需要递交GRE成绩，部分理科专业还要求有GRE Subject成绩；部分专业可以（或只能）使用GMAT/MAT考试
双录取：工程学院，以及法学院的LLM项目均接受双录取
