由于盘片转动速度特别快，信息记录密度很高，磁头悬浮在高速转动的盘片两侧，距离很小（大约001m），又不能与盘片接触，这就要求硬盘在无灰尘、无污染的环境中工作。因此，硬盘的盘片、磁头、驱动机构及其控制电路等全部密封在一起构成一个密封的组合件

硬盘上的数据读写速度与机械运动有关，因此完成一次读写 *** 作较慢，大约需要10ms。为此，硬盘通过将数据暂存在一个比其速度快得多的缓冲区中来加快它与主机交换数据的速度，这个缓冲区就是硬盘的高速缓存（Cache）。硬盘的高速缓存由DRAM芯片构成。在读硬盘中的数据时，磁盘控制器先检查所需数据是否在缓存中，如果在的话就由缓存送出所需要的数据，这样就不必访问硬盘了，只有当缓存中没有该数据时，才向硬盘查找并读出数据。由于DRAM的速度比磁介质快很多，因此也就加快了数据传输的速度
