西南太平洋群岛上的美拉尼西亚人也有类似的神话传说，他们的美人鱼名为“阿达拉”（adaro），上半身为人形，下半身为鱼形，居住在太阳里，经由彩虹来到地球，平时隐匿于海上的龙卷风之中。不同于其它美人鱼的是，阿达拉在美拉尼西亚人眼里是一种危险的生物，他们会用飞鱼袭击人类，使他们昏迷不醒甚至死亡。
