Distance Measurement
You can measure distance from a fixed point, or you can measure distance from
the edge of an element When the distance measurement feature is active, the
distance and angle from the start point to the cursor is shown in the Screen
View Status Line, and it is as if the cursor position was displayed with Polar Coordinates from a Relative
Origin
To Measure Distance from a Point:
1On the View menu, click Distance-From Point
2Position the cursor at the point where you want to measure from
3Click the mouse or press Enter
4Move the cursor to the position where you want to measure to
The distance and angle from the start point to the cursor is
shown in the Screen View Status Line
The Distance Measurement tool remains active so you can move the cursor to
new locations where you want to measure to, or you can click the mouse again to
set a new location to measure from
5To stop measuring distance, select another tool or press Esc
To Measure Distance from the Edge of an Element:
1On the View menu, click Distance-From Edge
2Position the cursor on the element where you want to measure from
3Click the mouse or press Enter
The cursor snaps to the element and the “rubber band” extends from the
closest point on the edge of the element to the cursor
4Move the cursor to the position where you want to measure to
5The distance and angle from the edge of the element to the
cursor is shown in the Screen View Status Line
The Distance Measurement tool remains active so you can move the cursor to
new locations where you want to measure to, or you can click the mouse again to
select a new element to measure from
To stop measuring distance, select another tool or press Esc
Key Command:
D = Measure Distance from Point
Enter = Select start point or element
Tip:
For precision, use the Align command when measuring from the exact
centerpoint of an element
